10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. ~Ephesians 6:10-13
I just finished reading a book (which will be reviewed on May 10th with a giveaway) that reminded me of this Scripture. I feel like every single day is a battlefield and as this Scripture indicates, it’s a battlefield in my mind for sure! I spend so much time worrying about things, stressing over everything, and so much more. I let Satan have a small foothold in my life when I do that. And the biggest problem with giving him a foothold is that he will then take a mile. He’ll take something as simple as a small worry and create a major problem in my life. And we forget that Satan isn’t in a hurry! The best-laid plans take time and he’s got all the time in the world to mess with us. So many people will tell you that they didn’t set out to steal, cheat, etc. and it’s true, they didn’t set out to do that, but they allowed Satan to have a small foothold in their lives and then, instead of kicking him out, they allowed him to continue to move them little by little to the place where their small sins now moved into big ones.
There’s a song that says,
Be careful little eyes what you see
It’s the second glance that ties your hands as darkness pulls the strings
Be careful little feet where you go
For it’s the little feet behind you that are sure to follow
It’s a slow fade when you give yourself away
It’s a slow fade when black and white have turned to gray
Thoughts invade, choices are made, a price will be paid
When you give yourself away
People never crumble in a day
It’s a slow fade, it’s a slow fade
(Casting Crowns – “Slow Fade”)
Those lines are so true, it’s the slow fade that traps our souls, my soul. I’m just as culpable for my slow fade sins that create the big ones as anyone else is.
May we put on the armor of God today so that in the end we will know that we did all we could to stand!!
