When I was growing up, I loved the movie South Pacific! I loved the love story set in a time when war was running rampant. I loved the fun of the crew as they tried to make the best of a situation. I remember songs such as, “I’m gonna was that man right out of my hair” and “Some Enchanted Evening”. I loved the costumes from that time period and still to this day wish that bathing suits were still made that way. So when I saw that a tour of South Pacific was coming through Beaumont, I jumped at the chance to go. My mother and I bought tickets and took my son (who is 10) and my (almost 15-year-old) brother. I was given the opportunity to listen to Mat Kearney’s new album titled Young Love by the One2One Network. I had actually never heard of Mat Kearney before now and to be honest, had I not been given the opportunity to review the album, I probably still would not know who he was. Mat’s style is an urban pop, easy rap and is very interesting. My son loved listening to this album on our way out-of-town and his favorite song on the album is “Hey Mama”. I think my favorite ended up being “Young and Dumb and In Love”, which is a good throwback to the days when I felt young, dumb and in love. 
All in all, I found this to be a really cute album and worth the listen.
This week, courtesy of One2One Network, I received a digital copy of Yanni‘s new CD, Truth of Touch to review. I have always heard of Yanni, but to be honest I was not familiar with his music at all. As I went into this review, I went in with no previous bias. I have to say that this was good because after listening to the CD a few times, I asked someone what they thought of the artist Yanni and was told that all they really knew about him was that he was classified as New Age music. Had I heard this prior to the review, I may not have listened because I am not a New Age kind of person. However, after listening to this CD, I have decided that his music is not New Age in the way that most people think of it. It’s just different. Continue Reading…
As a general disclaimer, I am not doing this review for anyone or any site. This is my personal review after purchasing a ticket to see the movie.
Rango is about a chameleon who has grown up in an aquarium. But he has a dream, a dream of acting. In an unfortunate event, Rango finds himself wandering through the desert. He finally runs across a town of animals who are down on their luck. The town is running out of water. In his attempt to fit in and play a role different than himself, Rango decides to become a rough and tough chameleon from the West which lands him the job of sheriff very quickly. In trying to act out his role as the sheriff, Rango stumbles upon the realization that the mayor of the town is the reason there is a shortage of water. Rango is kicked out of town once everyone realizes that he is not who he said he was. After some soul searching, Rango steps up to the plate and becomes who he was previously only pretending to be and saves the day and the town.
The Good
I loved the animation in this movie! The characters were so life-like and realistic in both look and movements. Half of the time I wasn’t sure what type of animal I was looking at, however I did catch that there were possums, moles, a rabbit, and even a turtle. There were some very funny parts in the movie, like when Rango, accidentally, kills the bird that is attacking the town and the little possum girl pokes it and says something about how they should cut him up and eat him. (You really had to be there! LOL)
The Bad
This movie is definitely not for children. Within minutes of the start of the movie, the word hell is used, and not in the discussion of heaven and hell. As the movie goes on, more and more language is revealed. I was so upset that a movie that is advertised for the whole family had language in it. It was very hard to really pay attention to the rest of the movie after that. See, I have a young son who really wanted to see this movie. Thankfully he was at his dad’s house last night and unable to be at the theater with us. My son hears enough language and gets enough of the “world” from his everyday life…he doesn’t need to hear it in his movies too.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I would not recommend that you take your children to see this movie. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend taking your children to hear cuss words. Our job as their parents is to ensure that we protect them for as long as we can, not expose them to something that could corrupt their minds.

I am currently sitting here listening to the pre-release copy of Norah Jones’ new album …Featuring. I have always been a HUGE Norah Jones fan since her very first album. Her very jazzy style voice and fantastic instruments have always been a favorite in my iPod playlist.
This new album, ...Featuring, is full of songs featuring different artists such as Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, OutKast, Foo Fighters, and many more.
While there are some artists on this album that I don’t know, for the most part, this album is worthy of Norah Jones’ versatile talent. Continue Reading…
